Anorexia is the thought that immedietely came to mind.
I agree with the above comment, they all looked better before. They even look happier and more relaxed in the before photos.
They just look so sad. I hope that they are able to overcome their eating dis-orders. I am sorry there is just no way on this earth that they don't have dir-ordered eating. Definitely makes me think that I don't want to be famous.
Ang
Reminds me of this photo essay that someone in the Portland police did, featuring before and during shots of meth addicts. these young girls look like they've aged way beyond their years. Sad, really.
Sad. Sad and scary. I can't image how many girls and young women are out there starving themselves in order to get to be like these celebrity skeletons. How long before we get a new reality series "Anorexic Actress!" Do you think it'll be a comedy?
Wow....that is amazing how society deems sickly rail thin is hot. Personally it is gross!!! How sad.
Gosh, I feel I would crush their bones if I hugged them now. I agree with the others...they looked better before. Now, they just look sick. I just heard an interview with Nicole's dad...and he said her appearance is due to stress and not a disorder...well not eating is definitely not the way to deal! I hope they will get a clue someday!
first thought? "Someone get that girl a sandwich. God."
They all look so unhealthy, and they were so beautiful before.
I'm going to be the unpopular girl here, but that's ok. My honest opinions:
I think the before pic of Lindsay looks fine, she looks "normal" or "average" (well, I guess not average by American standards, since the average American is overweight, but you know what I mean). The pic of her in the red dress looks horrible. And, if I can speculate, it probably is a nice diet of coke.
I think Nicole Ritchie looked fat and gross before, and I personally think she looks great now. The pic of her in the purple dress does show her very thin, but her cheeks are not sunk in and she just looks celebutant-thin. If she got any skinnier she'd look sickly, but I don't mind her in that pic. It's not my preferred body type (I like the fitness look, obvious from my blog) but I don't think it's gross.
I think Jessica looked great before and after. She's a goody goody kind of girl, so it's pretty safe to say she's not doing drugs. She worked with a trainer and nutritionist to get that thin for Daisy Duke so I doubt she was starving herself, just doing a lot of cardio and dieting. I doubt she'll stay that thin for too long but she tends to keep her body in shape.
I know I'm in the minority, but I don't mind that celebrities are thin. I don't like the coked out look, but seeing Demi at her age looking fantastic is great - no more excuses about "oh, well after a certain age you just CAN'T get back into shape".
Yeah, anorexia. It's not good, really. I know that a person who looks like that would read these comments and think we are just jealous, but no, no I'm not jealous. I think these girls' before photos are just lovely. Really nice and yummy girls. But the after photos make me think of cocaine junkies. There is something dirty about be able to see a persons bones. Its obscene in the must unsexual way possible. I totally advocate training and nutrition to make a body look good but I think lean should include more muscle and less bone. Actually, looking again, Jessical looks okay. But I'm most concerned about the Lohan girl.
Did you also read the quote from Lindsay about how she's "pretty big compared to most girls in Hollywood"?? Right.
The bad thing about these photos is not that these girls ARE that thin. Who knows, it could be coke, it could be anorexia, it could be that they all naturally have the genetics to be 80lbs. Whatever.
The bad thing is the way women look at each other. Finding EVERY flaw. Categorizing each other as "beautiful" or "fat and gross." Not being able to appreciate the natural differences between each other. Embracing one single view of beauty that Hollywood foists upon us - the unattainable ideal of perfect skin, perfectly shaped breasts, and thighs that don't touch. Some of us are like that naturally, some of us aren't. It isn't good or bad to have a certain kind of shape.
I do think it's bad when we compare ourselves to that and think less of ourselves if we don't meet it.
I just see a lot of sadness in those photos.
I think Lindsay and Nicole look disgusting now. They actually look like they have an eating disorder. Maybe it's just me but seeing bones poking out everywhere is not cute at all. Neither were ever big in my opinion and if that was big I must be a gargantuan.
I think Jessica looks okay though, she looks fit is what I should say.
They should stop throwing junk up their noses before they turn into bigger skeletons than what they already are.
They just look tragic now. They looked a lot better when they had meat on their bones.
Wow Renee, you pick the best topics!
I think Nicole Richie is gorgeous, but that purple dress pic she looks like she's had an intense stomach bug and lost ten kilos in five days and she's way too bony.
I'm glad that my partner loves me for who I am, not what I look like - but posters - if we had 'acting' - or 'it girl' careers which would mean we had chefs and trainers, would we not look like that also? Or pretty close to it?
the first thing is that pretty redheaded girl looks like crap as a blond but other than that i want to start yelling EMACIATED EMACIATED EMACIATED at the top of my lungs
It looks like Lindsey and Nicole have stopped eating; it just looks like Jessica has been working out with weights. Either way, they all look too skinny.
Found you on blogazoo and thought I'd pop in.
I personally don't believe the whole pressure theory these girls love to read the tabloids and if they pick up any issue they will see that being skin and bones don't get you too many compliments. With the exception of Nicole Richie all the girls were never describe as fat in any tabloid or reveiws matter of fact they were always fabulous. Bottomline I think whatever they are on they need to stop, being that shinny cannot be healthy and they are giving their fans an unrealistic outlook.
I have such mixed emotions looking at those pictures. On the one hand, they make me sad. But on the other, they make me feel even fatter than I am. They make me want to do something unhealthy just to lose weight quickly. I know that's wrong, but I do have a history of unhealthy living.
The after pictures made me think of myself as a high school senior. I didn't eat hardly anything for 4 months (with the aid of methamphetamines), and I lost 50 lbs. I was 98 lbs., probably more than these girls weigh, and you could see all my bones. Let me tell you, I was popular overnight.
People interested in fitness may think they look gross, but these girls are probably being praised for getting that thin. I know I got validated for my anorexia with tons of attention.
I'm glad I'm getting old. Even though the after pictures stir all these emotions in me, I now feel that I want to lose weight and get fit for ME...not for anyone else's attention. Thanks for posting these pictures Renee. In some way, you've validated my quest for a healthy lifestyle. I haven't talked about my feelings or history about anorexia before, and it feels good to let it out.
In terms of these 3 girls.. I worry for Lindsay Lohan, as it's obvious to anyone with eyes there is a major issue there. On a recent Howard Stern show, Nicole Richie weighed in at 97lbs, with clothes on. Given her petite height, she's about 5-8lbs below her healthy weight range of 99-121lbs. In the photo, I think Nicole looks healthier than Lindsay partly because her hair and skin aren't bleach pale. It's as if Nicole is on the verge and Lindsay crossed the line. I certainly agree Nicole was a bit chunky before, but I think she'd look fantastic at a solid 103lbs. Jessica Simpson, on the other hand... have you seen the photos for Dukes of Hazard? She's in great shape. YES, she is thin, but she's very fit and muscular. I think she looks great! They make me cringe.
The thing is, it's the culture they live in. There are tribes in various countries that put giant plates in their lips, there are tribes where beauty is measured by how enlongated the women's necks or earlobes are by gold rings or hoops. And as long as those people stay within their tribal area, this works out just fine, they are judged by those standards. I imagine that some members of the Hollywood tribe (Calista comes to mind) think that Lindsay and Nicole are not quite *there* yet, while those of us out here in the Normal American tribe see this standard as ghastly.
These people just aren't like us. Our idea of normal doesn't apply. They live in our own country but not in any way our world. Personally, I find this distortion of the human body as gross as stretching your neck to twice its normal length in the pursuit of beauty.... But that's just me projecting my cultural biases onto them...
(I have to add, though, that Lindsay used to be so beautiful, IMO. I wonder what her family thinks of her now?)

PRESSURE. That's what comes to mind.
While I hate the fact that they're succumbing to it, I wonder how thin I would become if I faced the kind of public pressure these girls do - day in and day out non stop. Lindsey and Jessica - they both grew up in front of the camera pretty much. I don't know much about Nicole... I'm not saying it's an excuse, or that it's right... but I can't even imagine what it would be like to worry about what I'm wearing when I step outside of my house EVERY MOMENT OF EVERYDAY because of the paparazzi.
I can imagine though - that, that kind of pressure would get to you after a while, no matter how well grounded you started out. I wonder if their families are chastising them for losing so much weight? I would hope so. Hopefully they have family and true friends around to help push them back into being HEALTHY.
I definitely think all 3 of them looked better before. Same with Renee Z.
