5lb Challenge - Week 2

Hola Beaker Babes (not to late to sign up),

This week's focus: Today kicks off Week 2! Stumbled in Week 1? Made a fugged up choice, or did nothing? Fuggedabout it, there are 5 entire weeks left to turn Week 1 into a distant memory. So wipe any percieved "failings" out of your memory bank and just make today good. Then make tomorrow better and on and on till we hit Saturday.

Though the challenge is titled 5lbs, the main point is just to regroup from whatever edge you may have fallen off and have a group of people cheering each other on. If in the process of getting yourself back on track, you happen to shed 5lbs, kudos. Other than that, @ the very least let's try to not to be to hard on ourselves.

Have a WONDERFUL week, use this post to cheer each other on. It's not soley for logging if you lost or gained b/c we are all much better than that ;) So if you hit a stumbling block and need a push or had a major victory you want to brag about, let's hear it.

Nevermind the scale. I got to the gym 6 days out of 7, and actually kept track of food (beyond just in my head) for the first time in years! Sure, I would like to see 10 pounds go away, but I would rather set up some healthy habits that will last beyond the challenge.

What great stuff did you guys accomplish??

07.31.05 | angie commented:

i just weighed in and am down from 141.5lbs last sundays weigh in to 138.5lbs back in the 30's again yahoo i am so happy this is my insentive to keep going. yesterday was day one with out any form of sugar other then natural from fruits and no caffiene also my hubby is quiting smoking so we are not a happy household.

Did really well all week but had a bit of a stumble. A friend brought back beignet mix from New Orleans and I just had to make some last night. Luckily I only made a little because I ended up eating them all But, as Renee said, that's over. I've gotten back into exercise big time and am feeling really great. So overall I say this week was great. Oh yeah, I was down .4 lbs Hope everyone else had a great week and here's to a better next week.

07.31.05 | Kelly commented:

didn't do too bad this week on food, exercised was not good as in not at all, I plan on starting fresh with the exercise on Monday. However I am down 2 pounds from last week, but still 2 pounds heavier than what I was 3 weeks ago, I went home to my family for a week and gained 4 pounds, 2 down 2 to go. Then when I am back to what I was I am 5 lbs from goal weight. Gotta get that exercise back on track.

07.31.05 | Fran commented:

Well, I started off a bit late on the challenge, so my 1st week was not great at all. That's ok though, because I know that this 2nd week will be an improvement...and guess what? I finally got a gym pass...yup! Over at bally's....do any of you go to that fitness center? If so, what classes are good to take...cause I saw some on there that seemed pretty fun but I just wanted to know beforehand....if they're any good. Any exercise is good for me though! :) I just feel real motivated and excited, and thank God for even making it possible for me to get into a gym and having you all around for support as well. We can do this....I am not going to lose faith (even though I lose it in myself at times).

07.31.05 | Kathryn commented:

I've been plodding along... doing well with the exercise, not as good as I'd like with eating. Like Angie, I'm trying to quit the sugar.

I've also decided to work on my 'inner health' - I'm starting meditation classes this week and have made an appointment with a counsellor.

07.31.05 | Dee commented:

I'm doing ok - last week was horrible but I used it as a stepping block to jump into this week. I've been exercising consistently now and my food is FINALLY starting to fall into place.

Gina - Awesome on 6 days in a row and tracking food!! SO TRUE about the picking up healthy habits.

Angie - 138?! Wow!!!! How's the only natural sugar going for you? I'm trying to brave the world without sugar either *here's good luck to both of us* and yay for hubby @ quitting smoking. Hehe might not be a happy household but most def. a healthier one for it!

Florence - That's exactly right @ little stumbling and now it's over. It's great to see that you're using it to motivate you. Good on ya! hoorah for .4 down too, a loss is always a good thing.

Kelly - half way there gurl! keep going, those 2lbs will go as fast as they came. I'm sure you'll get that other stuff in check soon.

Fran - You GO GURL!!! @ the gym pass, how cool. You have an awesome attitude, about that gym classes - I don't go, but I guess you could sample or do a peep in beforehand?

Kathryn - Good luck with the sugar quitting, I'm in the same boat. As for the "inner health" I think striving to figure all that stuff out and be content with you, is such an awesome thing to start. Enjoy learning about you and loving it all =)

Ok good luck to everyone else week 2, have fun working out beaker babes!

Started eating right again today. Actually brought my lunch to work like I promised my trainer. Ate it all before 12pm. Had a diet coke and a yoghurt at afternoon tea. Starving. grr. Bloody winter. Will push past it.

ps. got engaged on the weekend to my long long long long long term boyfriend/partner thing. Weird. Surreal and another reason to get off my fat ass so I can fit into a dress. Am pushing for eloping to Hawaii ;)

08.01.05 | nat commented:

congratulations mel!

And I hear you on the yoghurt. Its the last thing I want to eat when its all cold outside! A small serve of hot vegetable soup with a dollop of low-fat natural yoghurt is a good alternative, and it keeps you cozy

Good news for me...lost my first pound...I'm going to work my tail off to loose another pound this week..no gaining that dang pound back...I don't want it...

08.01.05 | neca commented:

Down 2! Okay, I know it was mostly water, but I'll take it! 4 to go...

08.01.05 | Renee commented:

Congrats Mel!!!!

08.01.05 | Missionista commented:

I stayed stationary on purpose. I knew that I'd be beginning SB diet this week and I wanted to enjoy my mashed potatoes and some butter. Believe me - I'll be able to make it up this week.

08.01.05 | Becky commented:

I lost .5 lbs this past week. So does this mean I broke the plateau??? I'll take it! Onwards to more weight loss!

08.01.05 | Nikki commented:

Pretty darn good. My stats show that my veggie intake is better, but not stellar and I have to curb my calories, but tracking it is the first step. Exercise was on point.

Looking forward to an awesome week this week.

08.01.05 | jj commented:

I lost like maybe 1/2 pound last week. Which is small enough that I'm not sure if it's really a loss... but whatever. My workouts were good though, eating not necessarially great, but coming under control. I think I'm going to use this challenge to really get a handle on using food to manage emotions, that's a big problem for me, and it'll help to focus on some of the "process" rather than just the calories and results.

08.01.05 | smitherene commented:

well, i just signed up for the challenge, but can i go ahead and add last weeks loss to total? if so, i lost 1 pound last week (which makes 10lbs down for the month!) WOO HOO!

i'm trying for 1.5 beakers, so...

1lb down, 6.5lbs to go.

08.01.05 | Alison commented:

Even with birthday cake, imperfect eating and skipping one workout last week, I was down .6 lbs. this morning to 143.8. Since I'm less than 10 pounds to GW though (I think--I'll reevaluate at 135), I'll take it.

This week is Extreme Reward Week. Yesterday I rewarded myself with a book for doing my workout and eating properly. Today I'll reward myself with a treat from Sephora if I do my workout and don't completely blow my calories. I just desperately needed to get back on track after a week of traveling and then a week of being inexplicably starving all week and eating accordingly. Perhaps by the end of the week, I will have myself retrained again so I can go back to my normal weekly rewards.

08.01.05 | Toshiko commented:

Last week I did well, except for that trip to Hooters and uhh, well last night with that trip to Krispy Kreme with a side of Twix ice cream . I promised myself to get back on track today!

08.01.05 | CuerpoAztlan commented:

Down to 171.8 today! From 174. Goal is 165 by the end of the month!

Changed up my weight lifting and still working on keeping my calories down and low fat.

08.01.05 | angie commented:

hey guys just checking in. going into day 3 of no sugar or caffiene. I have had a few headaches and hot flashed and such. I am proud of myself and how far I have come since we came back from holidays. I slept a little better last night and today starts my week of 10 goals. to accomplish. I have already started on a few of them infact. I uped my water in take and am now drinking, 3 32 ounces of water and tonight I am starting to go to bed at 10 as I start my new job tomorrow. Yay can't wait. thanks again renee for the challenge.

Angie

ps i have done my exercise for the day and have already drank 64 ounces of water and it is only 5 pm. I and raring to go.

08.02.05 | Paige commented:

Ok, moving to a new place is NOT good for healthy living. I have subsisted off of McGriddles & Sonic Slushes all weekend. NOT GOOD! Definitely going to have a "cleansing week"--similiar to a Phase 1 South Beach. Erg!

08.02.05 | Frannie commented:

I started the week okay, but ended it poorly because of too many life challenges. But I really have regrouped and started off much better this week. Thank god for 5 weeks left!

08.02.05 | Tamara commented:

Paige, moving is the worst! I hope you can get back on track, soon.

Way to go, everyone. I am up a little but am refocusing today, so I know I will be back on track soon!

Rewards -- great idea, Alison, and something I have to work on. I tend to get myself whatever I want, regardless of how I'm doing, so it doesn't feel right to reward myself on top of that. But maybe a massage or something -- haven't had one of those in quite some time.

Congrats on the engagement, Mel! Everyone else, keep up the great work.

08.02.05 | angie commented:

hey ladies. just checkig in. doing good with the eating. but caved on the caffiene I need my fix. On another note, I did something that this time last years I never thought possible. I ran for 10 mins solid. at 5.0 I alternated when I found my legs getting tired, but never gave up.
I was only going to do 6 mins but with the music playing in my ears I decided to continue to see what I could do. At 8 mins my mp3 player died and I thought about giving up but I kept going. I felt great, all sweety and hot. Actually had sweet running off my forehead. I had a feeling of accomplishing something great.

have a great rest of the wekk, i will run again on thursday.

Second week! THANK YOU! I gained 1 pound soooo, me not happy camper.

08.04.05 | neca commented:

This has been a tough week. I wrote a long post about it on my site, but the fact is my husband sabotouges my efforts. No, he doesn't force the food into my mouth, but he brings home inappropriate portions of my trigger foods, even when I've asked him not to. And I cave almost every time he does it. I'm trying to figure out how to get out of this pattern...

08.04.05 | Tessa commented:

Hmm, maybe the start of TOM week was NOT the best time to join up. Ugh. Not stepping on the scale for a few days I think. Work out tonight will be cleaning the house and mowing an acre of land- with a push mower.

08.04.05 | Missionista commented:

Week 2 is looking good. Down seven pounds and hopefully still counting. And the gym has been great.

08.04.05 | Elle commented:

Well I don't have a scale (though I will weigh in at labor day) but I'm back in the gym. AND I put on some pants that I brought with me to WA and they were way to tight at the begining of the summer and they fit now!

This week I'm trying to get my eating back under reigns and make sure I don't miss a workout. So far, so good.

08.04.05 | Jeni commented:

Week 2 is definitely going better than week 1, but I'm still not making any promises. It looks like my desire to shave off two beakers may have been a little too optimistic. But I'm confident I can still do one. Now the challenge is to make it through the weekend!

08.05.05 | neca commented:

150.5 - down 5.5 pounds. Water weight, I love watching you go. If only fat could be so easy! Now the real work begins. Still, I am feeling very fired up - thanks Renee. This is just what I needed!!!

08.05.05 | Martha commented:

Hola, fellow Beaker Babes! today's weigh in: down 1.4 pounds! that's 3 pounds since this challenge started, and 6 pounds cumulative for the last 3 weeks! yay!
really surprising too, since I only exercised one day. But I ate really light (too light some days!), so I think that helped. But I'm back in the gym on Saturday!

08.05.05 | Tamara commented:

Great job, everyone! Neca, sorry to hear about your woes with the hubby -- I hear that's a common issue. Mine doesn't sabotage, per se, but he thinks everything is fine so he does sometimes encourage me to throw caution to the wind with my eating. Not that I need any help in that department!

I am maintaining, which is good considering how I've been eating. I'm really going to refocus on Core (WW) today. Workouts are going pretty well. I'm thinking of adding running (or, more accurately, walk/run training, such as Couch to 5K) to burn the fat layer.

08.05.05 | Moody commented:

Well, for me this was my first week and I did so-so. The first days of the week were ok, then I got a bit of track, but I ended up ok. And I lost 0,4 lbs. Not thaaaat much but it's something. =)
Up to the next week!

08.05.05 | angie commented:

things are going ok. i have slipped up but nothing major. except for wed night when I downed 7 pancakes. yesterday I had a small bag of lays chips. And today I had to carimelle aero bars. But i have been feeling kind of crapy today. It is TTOM and that is why. i am not too worried I have been monatering my weight this week and the lowest it ws at on wed was 137. and today I was up to 138.5. so only 1.5lbs and i know alot of that is bloating and water retentin. Alright thats all for now. I 'll update again soon. Weigh in day is sunday for me. I work that day so I might not get to do it until sunday night.

have a great weekend everyone and good luck at weigh in....

weigh in today up a pound from last week. but thats due to tom this week. hoping for a loss next week. good luck to everyone.

08.07.05 | Catherine commented:

Gasp! Puff, puff! I'm still trying to catch up with the challenge. Whatever week it is, I don't know where I'm really at. I still weighed 149 yesterday and I expected to be down, at least half a pound today. But I missed a dose of medication (seriously) and it threw my weighing surprisingly off course. I weighed unbelievably, 151 this morning. Well, I'm using the weight loss efforts that have been working for me thus far. So, I'm doing good as far as sticking with my plans. We will see where I'm at next week. Hope everyone is doing well.
