Biggest Loser - Families
January 25, 2006 by Renee @ 10:37 PMCategory: Live Blogging, Pop Culture, The Biggest Loser
Spoiler alert, don't read if you haven't seen the show. I did this on the fly so there will be extra typos and bad grammar to deal with.

Sabrina the Teenaged Witch Aunt aka StTWA introduces the 2 families, both work in restaurants.
Red team is from the Bronx, NY cooking pasta & pizza in Little Italy.
Blue team from Peoria Illinois, cooks burgers & fries @ a 50's styled diner.
Up for stake $50,000. Why oh why didn't the couples take the cash. Oh never mind, I'm done w/them.
Video confession time. The diner family, dad is the cook, wife and two sisters.
Parents are doing this for their kids. They get trainer Bob who will give them the recipe, heh pun very intended I'm sure, for living a healthy lifestyle.
Um...he calls them as they are...sitting around a table eating? ![]()
Little Italy Family – all cousins and 1 daughter. Typical New Yorkers, lots of bravado...
..I love them already.
Bring on Scary Jillian.
Again family sitting round the table about to eat. Methinks NBC plans this.
In terms of scary factor, I think Jillian has met her match w/that Robert dude.
Both fams head to the ranch meet StTWA & each other. Obligatory showing favorite food temptation goes down.
Makes me wonder, is that food real? What does NBC do w/it? Donate it to the hungry?
Up next, [sarcasm]every woman's favorite thing in the whole word[/sarcasm], public weigh ins.
The women look sad and uncomfortable, till they hear the money.
Starting weights
Robert - 276 - aw he giggles to cover up the pain
Tony – 213
Danilella - 163 - not bad considering that so many of the former losers reached that @ their final weigh in, but it's what she weighed when she was 9 months pregnant
Alexa - 14 years old (StTWA inane question of the night dripping w/faux concern "Are girls your age worried about their weight?" major
) 191 Holy Moly!
Her mom starts to cry.
Commercial Break
9:14
All of red team is crying now. Blue team looks on w/sympathy. Red team is 843lbs.
Blue team's turn.
Dad - 265
Tammy - 215
Kelly - 211
Emily – 16 years old (Here comes inane question #2 "At your weight are other girls nice or rotten?") She's 255
Her mom cries.
Both moms feel it's their fault. Aww this show is much sadder than the other loser shows. Seeing the family dynamics and all. *sigh*
941lbs total
Next weigh in is in 10 days and the ones w/the greatest %-tage lost will get a family vacay to Curacao.
Families head to their rooms & see their portraits. They cringe.
That Robert shure is a big talker...I don't think he knows what he's in for. Bwahahaha line of the nite: "Jillian ambushed us."
Blue team meets Bob, he's so gentle when he doles out the pain, "Look ahead @ Mt Everest we are about to climb, it's not that high right?", he coos soothingly.
Bob reeducates them about food, brings the diner cooking they are used to seeing to them. They don't look happy w/the new burgers that haven't been deep fried. Oh well.
Alexa hates shopping for clothes, I can relate. Jillian is sweet to her.
Commercial Break

Robert tells Jillian she has met her match...
...he is gonna get it.
And get it he did, she gets in his ass.
She says he has lots of heart attack fat round his waist. Man.
All that tough talk is gone, now he's saying he can't go on. hee
Robert again, he walks off & screeches that she can't do this to people. Boo! That line sounded way more dramatic in the previews last week.
Rut-oh...here comes the handcuffs. Jillian slap 'em on his wrist AND the treadmill.
Motivational guest of the week Gary from biggest loser. Wait? The Gary that left a comment on my site?!!?!? I'm famous I'm famous!
![]()
My best friend Gary gives a good pep talk and says enough about him. That's right, now tell 'em about me Gary. Meeeeee!
Teams get a makeover.
Dad w/mustache looks like old school Burt Reynolds ![]()
They all look nice in the reveals, but blue team mom looks the best!
Aww the teenage girls hike together. Red & Blue bonds. Take the hint politicians.
Both hide themselves in black or jeans or hoodies. *sigh* I know. I know.
Commercial Break

Challenge ahead, StTWA is back. They've been @ the ranch for over a week. Each team has a treadmill, 90mins to go as far as they can. It's like a relay race one goes, hits stop, someone else comes on. The prize is an extra week w/trainer. If they hit stop twice, all mileage is wiped away.
Not sure if it's the makeover or a week working out, but some of them look slimmer already.
They are showing them hit stop, I sense the gawds of foreshadowing that someone will hit stop twice.
@ the line form the red team "We are like the Italian Osborne's." So priceless and so true.
Blue time hit stop twice.
I KNEWWWWWWWWWWWWW it. 1.23 miles wiped away.
Go dad, he says he'll catch up for the team and runs for them...go dad go!
Shit Daniella hit reset. Zing. Red team is back to zero.
5.29 miles vs 0 miles - Blue team won.
Back @ the bungalow, here comes Jillian. Robert wants to win period, rest of team wants their health more. Could be the super competitive man thing. Jillian gets them to see why working together is best. They make up from earlier fighting.
Over @ team blue, doc tells them Emily is pre diabetic. Damn.
She's too young for that shit. [Side note, later I'm going to post a scary ass story I recently read in O magazine about diabetes]

Bob promises to give Blue team an Ass Kicker Workout. Hey! Has he been peaking @ how I name my challenges? I wonder...
Jillian pushes her team too. This is always my fave part of the show...watching them push themselves to the breaking point and keep on pushing. B/c @ the final weigh in, seeing how great they look makes it all worth it.
Inane question #3 from StTWA "Are we ready to find out which family wins?" *SLAP*
Final Weigh ins, Red team first:
Tony - 213 -> 204 lost 9lbs
Alexa – 191 -> 183 lost 8lbs
Daniella 163 -> 152 WOWWOWWOWOW!!! lost 11lbs
Robert -> 276 -> 258 lost 18lbs!!!
Total lost 46lbs / 5.46%
StTWA says blue team needs to lose more than 51lbs to win. Why can't she just say they need to lose 52lbs?
Tammy - 215 -> 201 lost 14lbs
Kelly 211 -> Commercial Break. Bastards!
9:54
Kelly - Once again she was 211 -> 199 lost 12lbs her goal was to get under 200...well done.
Again StTWA reminds them they need to lose more than 51lbs and again I say why can't she just say they need to lose 52lbs to win?
Dad/Scott (His name is Scott and I'm now finding this out?) - 265 -> 242 lost 23lbs StTWA "That was one heavy mustache."
good one.
49lbs lost so far, they only need 2lbs to win the vacay. Come on emily you can do it. She feel like she gained 3 lbs. Rut-oh again.
Emily 250 -> 229!!!!!!!! WTF!>?!!?!?!?
Blue team lost a total of 70lbs / 7.44%
The game now begins as they head home and practice what they were taught.
Cue the theme music, flashbacks and voice overs as they each express happiness, positivity and hope for change.
::Renee singing along:: "What have you done today..to make you feel proud, it's never to late to tryyy iiii...what have you done today...hmmmm hmmm hmmm"
Final word: Robert calls his team biggest losers in Italian, I can't repeat it much less type it.
Previews for next week: Emily no longer has diabetes and Robert in a more manly screech, pumps his fist in the air w/joy during his weigh in. I so can't wait! If who I predict to win, the blue team, actually wins, I have a huge suggestion to the NBC brass to make the game more equitable. I'll hold my tongue for now.

How much do I love those two girls? Ohmigod... Jillian nurturing Alexa, Alexa and Emily bonding over a hike, Emily has pre-diabetes! Jeez... what a tear jerker. Can I vote for both teenage girls to win over all their families?
Also the diabetes thing is beginning to hit home for me too. My uncle was diagnosed this fall. My mom's last blood sugar test came back pre-diabetic. And a woman in our office also got diagnosed recently, she's a little younger than me and about a similar BMI as I started at. Yikes! I've got a physical coming up and I'm gonna bug the doc for a fasting blood glucose test.
