Biggest Loser - Families finale

[2/2 Update! NBC was nice enough to post pics on their site, so I've added some here to go along w/the commentary. Freaky how close I got it. And I fixed the spelling of Toni's name. Man I must have been really beat since it didn't even occur to me to use an I. I kept thinking people will be so confused when I say Tony and the word "she" behind it. Also took the time to remove the extra L from Daniela since she's now my 2-hour-a-day-work-out hero.]

********

Spoiler alert, don't read if you haven't seen the show. I did this on the fly so there will be extra typos and bad grammar to deal with.

Pre show

Reminder collage from last week, showing summary of how families got on the show.

Key moments, Blue Team (BT) Robert yelling, "You can't do this to people", Red Team (RT) Emily diagnosed with early stages of diabetes, damn again.

After 10 days on the ranch, the fams return home, lots of video confessionals ahead. Looks like they got gym equip, and trainers will be stalking them.

They'll spend the next 6 months maintaining new regimen, worrying about the competition, and tonight we will find out which fam gets their just deserts...cornball announcer said that not me eyeroll

cue theme music. No singing from Renee tonigt, Renee is pooped. Bah.

RT family from NYC up first, Jillian thinks it'll be hard for them in real world to change a lifetime of habits after just 10 days. Robert missed his kids.

A surprise is in store for them, A welcome home banner and room full of gym equip. Dammit I need to get on this show.

Red Team enjoying their new toys

And a fridge full of good eats, natch.

Robert pronounces Couscous, Cous-kiss.

Jillian is on TV scaring them. Stay focused, stay strong, she'll see them soon. That last part sounds like a threat to me.

Bob is nervous for BT being back in the diner w/the smell of shakes and fries tempting them.

Blue Team heading back to the diner of tempting foods

Their family room is now a gym. Renee is now officially jealous.

Good old dad is playing w/the equip already. He's a trooper. I like him.

Dad getting down to business

Bob is on their TV giving them the same spiel Jillian did, though it was less scary. Much less.

Can't read the text on the screen, bad reception.

Robert in video, feels abandoned. Toni has a hard time doing workouts.

One of the woman checked in some candy @ work and cheated w/butterfinger. It's hard working @ cash register with all the temptation.

Coming up: trainers arrive to surprise team. Jillian gallops through the gym almost making poor Robert keel over on the treadmill.

@ this point, were I ever to be on this show, the day the cameras show up and start following me around, I'll be looking every whichaway for trainer ambush.

9:12 back

BT back in the diner, wow Dad looks great. Smell of bacon slaps him face. Trying to avoid nibbling.

Over to RT Robert, every day is a temptation, he don't look as good as BT dad.

RT is working out in home gym, green eyed monster rears it's head in the Renee household. They are flashing back to their days @ ranch, Robert predicts they'll bring home title and money. Um...he made a similar prediction last week and we all know how that worked out. Don't give up your day job Rob.

Red Team working it out @ home

12 weeks left. BT Kelly says, it's harder than she expected. She wishes Bob was there to sit on her shoulder. Dad talking again. He wants to take it all up for his team. I know he'd totally do it too.

Robert, he's 2 pant sizes smaller.

BT family, sitting @ the diner talking about hitting the gym and here comes Bob, riding in a meat truck. The hell?!? BT family all wearing, blue. Kewl.

Meat Truck Bob arrives

Hugs all around. Bob too says Dad looks great. He really does. Oh right Dad's name is Scott. Point taken.

They are practically begging Bob to whip them in shape. In the meat truck, Bob brings the ranch to the diner. He'll hook 'em up w/turkey burgers, oh that's what the meat truck is for. He talks about getting red meat eaters onto turkey. I'm sorry but are those things really that hard to eat? Same ground meat and same prep process. I don't get why there is resistance. It's not like he's giving them veggie burgers.

They all sit down munching on the turkey burgers, w/what looks like a huge chunk of lettuce, or it could just be my reception playing tricks on me.

I was RIGHT! It was a huge chunk of lettuce, which makes me think it's not convincing people to eat turkey burgers that's hard Bob, it's that damn head of lettuce you wanna ram down their throats

Kelly is smoking again which drives Bob crazy. She does it b/c of stress, she quit soda, so she opts for ciggy, Bob slaps her down. First time I've ever seen Bob so firm. He says she has to quit.

Not convincingly, she says yea.

RT Daniela feels good, feels fit, has had quite a weight loss.

RT went to gym to work out as fam. All wearing red tees of course. Here comes the scary, Jillian.

They are shocked and surprised to see her. She says how incredible Rob looks, he does. Daniela looks fabulous. She sees loss in Alexa too but not really in Toni. Toni looks upset. Jillian tells her if she's working out and still showing little results, it's the food. Of all, she's the least improved.

An upset Toni

Rob challenges Jillian (lmao I typed Killian, by mistake. Freudian much?)

Doesn't this man learn? Last time he got handcuffed to a treadmill for those antics, does he now want to be hogtied? She wants 50 pushups and well pretty much gets it.

Killian does kickboxing w/Alexa, who's whining a bit about only losing 15lbs.

Killian reassures her, there'll be weeks she won't lose, weeks she'll gain, it's a process, just like life.

Daniela, my fave, gets a "Perfect" shout out from Killian. Okay I'll stop w/the Killian already.

Bob and his team are working outdoors. He's proud of Emily who's not stopping and whining that she can't go on. Kelly hates lunges. Bob, "It's hard doing lunges but I bet it'll be fun spending 50gs." Zing!

Smoking girl is pissed. She's already had 3 ciggies since 9 in the AM. Bob makes her hold a difficult pose (she was the one that wanted Bob on her shoulder, be careful what you wish for people) till she promises to never smoke again, then collapses crying. Man Bob was really a hardass today. He must really hate smoking. It's tough love, she gets it, he gives her a kiss, and softie Bob returns.

No more ciggies for a sobbing Kelly

Back to red team.

Jillian again. This time @ the door w/flowers. She invited herself over for dinner lmao

They make healthy food, and she's impressed. Jillian whips out a copy of Alexa's food diary, spies chips, saltines, burger king, chicken nuggets w/fries. Alexa catches quite an attitude, but I cut her some slack, she's 14. Not slack for the slips, but for the attitude and neck rolling she did. She doesn't get why the entire food journal is bad, she keeps saying it was only one day. She can't grasp how it all adds up.

Commercial break

9:30 back
Jillian takes Alexa shopping for Jr sized clothes. Alexa talks about covering up wearing baggy and hoodies. Jillian really seems to like her, says she has a body image thing. Alexa hates dressing rooms. In the end Jillian gets her to buy an outfit that's more revealing and fitted.

Can't read screen again.

Final weigh in is approaching, Kelly only lost 1lb in a week.

Rob is really losing, Alexa is trash talking the blue team.

Alexa trash talking

Mail aka biggest loser gram, oh that's what they call it, arrives.

BT gets pictures of RT, they look great! They all say Emily looks great, like a different person. They point and gawk and now want to kick it up a notch. As they remember BT won an extra week w/Bob.

Red Family gawking @ Team Blue

Now it's BT's turn to look @ RT.

Lots of gasps. They are mostly shocked by Robert. His stomach is almost gone. They estimate Daniela has lost 40lbs. Dad says they aren't eating as much pasta as he'd hoped. lol I like bitchy dad.

They post RT pic on their fridge for motivation.

More unreadable screen. I've got to get a better antenna.

BT is now working out w/Bob.

Bob tells them to think red.

Dad says he's pushed as hard and as far his as his body will go.

Dad pushing it and looking fab!

Out comes the bad news doc from the ranch. Emily was retested and he has the results, she no longer has any signs of diabetes.

::Renee wipes away tears::

RT is packing to head back for final weigh in.

Robert has his old pants, he now feels like a big winner due to weight loss. They feel like they changed their life, money is secondary.

StTWA is introducing the fam in Hollywood. We'll find out who is the biggest loser when show returns.

Will we really? Let's see how accurate that statement is since there is still 20 whole mins left in the show. Wanna bet there's another dramatic commercial break?

Speaking of...here comes the Commercial break

9:42 back

StTWA, "The battle of the bulge over, battle of scale begins."

Here comes BT @ the starting weight vs. now. Simply amazing.

Same treatment of RT, they look good too.

The old face the mirror trick, where the mirror actually gives way so they end up looking right @ each other. I'm onto you NBC.

Ye Olde Mirror trick revealed

The weight, oh the puns are coming fast and furious tonite, is over.

Emily says she's more confident, school is way better.

Daniela, is asked how she squeezes working out in while being a fulltime mom w/3 kids. That woman went to the gym for 2 hours. No excuses people.

Weigh in time but first, bring out the trainers. More hugs.

Greatest %-tage of weight wins..blah blah blah, told you people, I'm tired tonight.

Flashing back to Toni feeling bad about Alexa. They are happy for having Jillian. Robert again w/the Italian way of saying they'll be the biggest losers.

Toni
SW 213 –> CW 190 - lost 23lbs, she feebly claps. Hmm.

Alexa
SW 191 –> CW 166 - lost 25lbs, she's ecstatic.

48lbs lost for team

Daniela
SW 163 -> CW 121 - lost 42lbs. holy shit. 2 hours in the gym is so worth it!!!!!!! BT just about nailed the prediction on how much she lost. See that Robert? That's how you make a prediction.

90lbs down for team red

Robert
SW 276 -> CW 197 - lost 79 freaking lbs. Good googly moogly.

He and Daniela really got it done.

Team lost 169lbs / 20.05%.

BT up next

I'll just cut to the chase & say what StTWA should be saying. "They must lose 189lbs." none of that longwinded, "They must lose more than 188lbs" claptrap.

Oh and whaddya know...a commercial break. Didn't she say before the last break we'd find out who wins. Liar.

9:53 back

BT blah blah blah blah lose more than 189lbs.

Last week I predicted they'd win and I'm still feeling that way.

Flashbacks to their first day and journey @ the ranch. Dad predicts they'll win by hook or by crook.

Dad I mean Scott, I truly keep forgetting this mans name, is up first
SW 265 –> CW 183 - lost 82lbs. Sorry team red, you guys are toast.

StTWA says how young everyone looks.

Young looking fam

Tammy next
SW 215 –> CW 161 - lost 54lbs. Yup, game done, sign over the check & make it payable to team blue.

So far, 136lbs down.

Kelly up.
SW 211 –> CW 169 - lost 42lbs

178 down, Emily only needs to lose 11lbs

Why do I feel déjà vu?
SW 250 –> CW 186 - 64lbs lost for Emily! I suspect they made her weigh in last otherwise Kelly #'s would've been irrelevant. Had they jumped to Emily, team loss would've been 200lbs.

Once again, Emily wins it all

Big smile from Bob!

I was not kidding when I said Bob had a big smile.
You could drive a meat truck thru it

They all get a hug from StTWA though a little girl runs out and intercepts her from hugging Kelly.

StTWA gives a big congrats, but doesn't say the total lbs or %-tage lost. What's up w/that?

More screen words I can't read coupled w/pictures I can't really see. Though I do make out the text "before'"& "after".

Next week is The Biggest Loser special edition season finale, @ an earlier time. Two couples again going for a dream wedding, just in time for Valentines Day. Ooooo it'll be 2 whole hours. Cool.

********

A word about my prediction from last week, after seeing this 3 times in a row. The team/person with the biggest amount to lose, barring not actively losing weight @ all, will always win.

If you are 160 and you are going against a woman who is 190 and the ideal/healthy weight for the both of you is 145. You'd need to lose 15lbs or 10% vs. 45lbs or 25%. Even if she *only* loses 5 more lbs than you did and ends up weighing 170, her %-tage lost will be higher.

To beat her, you'd have to go below your ideal/healhty weight and that implication was made towards one of the woman from season 2 and it really bugged me. If I remember, she was like 140 something and looked great, and StTWA made a comment she needed to lose like 50lbs to win, which would'be put her in the gaunt 120 range. Nonsense.

Also, the heavier you are, the more you lose in the beginning. The heavier you weigh, the more you'll burn. Granted over time the loss will slow, but you do get that jumpstart. And finally what the powers that be @ the show could do, to make it fairer, is pick people of a similar girth.

RT was 843 and BT was 941, it doesn't *seem* like a lot and for shure it'll be hard to match families and couples, but I even thought the same thing about the regular show. When they pick individuals, each person should be w/in a 5-10lb margin.

Hmmm..I was just thinking of Matt and wondering if a woman his size would even want to go on this show, prolly not. But it's just a thought.

I'll see if my biggest SW = biggest loser theory holds true next week.
