Payback is a...
May 04, 2007 by Renee @ 09:59 AMSo, this loverly cub I have (says thru gritted teeth) has been waking me up each and every morning for the last week. Wayyyyyyyy before the alarm goes off. Some mornings 2 hours before which makes Renee very very angry.
I am in an efficiency so I can't just put her out, though the last few mornings I've thought about just leaving the window open, but I don't want her out @ night.

April 25, 2007 by Renee @ 04:16 PMWhen I went out of town last week, I learned Maggie (Callies' mother) had another batch of kittens. Six of 'em just five weeks fresh out the oven, she stole them from where she lived and plopped them in my mom's shed.
Over the past few days I got a chance to know them, 5 boys and 1 girl, though my lack of a biology degree initially had me thinking she had 5 girls and 1 boy. Must reread the book on the birds and the bees.
Anyhoo, of them all, this one...

...endeared himself to me the most and I don't even like boy cats. I called him Turtle. B/c when I'd go visit them @ the shed, he'd run underneath and stick his head out, see me, and stick it back under, then immediately stick it out again.
I think he's the runt o' the litter only b/c when I'd feed them, he'd rather stand in the shed and not eat...

...he'd also fall asleep while standing up...

...he didn't play much w/the others. At least not when I was around. Rather, a tornado of kittens would go flying by...

...he'd get caught in the backdraft, tussle w/them for a bit, catch me standing there and scamper off.
When we brought them all inside, @ one point having 9 cats in the house!! (Queen Maggie, her 2 cubs: my Callie and Callie's sis Holly & the 6 kittens) he'd go around the rail, under the planter and start to meow like he was lost. I'd bring him back with the others, he'd go back around the rail and under the planter and start to meow.
In addition to Head Cat in Charge, Maggie...

There was Mykah. RIP Mykah (he was run over by a car @ 7 months) Older bro to Callie & Holly, they were 5 weeks when he was 7 months...

There's Holly, littermate to my Callie...

They meet again (Callie's laying down)...

The Tiger Twins (One boy, one girl)...

Black Boots Twins...

and lastly, Callie Jr...aka CJ...

...who may or may not be blind in one eye...

Thus named CJ b/c it goes both ways for a girl or boy and of all the kitties, his fur looked the most like Callie's when she was that small.
Baby Callie...

I wished I could bring them all w/me but baby kittens are hard work. Plus Callie hated them all w/a passion. For some odd reason, they'd see her and try to nurse...![]()
Two last shots...b/c it just melts my heart...

...and makes me smile...

@ the backwards nursing...they are so determined...I think that's the same anklebiter w/his legs all splayed out on the white blanket.

Callie @ 12 weeks
December 01, 2006 by Renee @ 09:51 AMThis was from last Monday. I took her to the vet and she came home so lethargic, I was a mess. Some googling taught me it's normal behavior. As much as the little hellion wears me out, I didn't want her to be a complete zombie either

She was back to normal 24 hours later. I wasn't sure if I should be happy about it :\
Now that she's bigger, she's finding higher places to climb. Her new fave perch? In front the computer.

The white cord is my iPod, the little gold thing is her laser toy. The red thing is her comb, and you can see how many windows I tend to have open any given moment. About 10 ![]()
She's getting so big. Here she looks like her mom. I'll miss her being a kitten, but yesterday I saw a 6 week old and chills ran up my spine. Too. Much. Work.

I always wonder what she thinks w/expressions like that. Guess I'll never know. I am happy that her nails are trimmed. Short. heh

Callie @ 11 Weeks
November 17, 2006 by Renee @ 10:45 AMShe's a week or two younger than 11 weeks in these flicks, but I liked them, so here ya go.
Never let it be said she ain't a well read cat...

Not only does Mt. Clothesrack make an excellent climb, it's a great place to catch a snooze...

It wasn't to be forever, apparently her love of Mr. Teddy took a nasty turn. I haven't seen him since...

Going Kit-razy
November 09, 2006 by Renee @ 09:52 AMYes I realize it's not exactly Friday and technically, Callie is a kitten ::nods head:: not a cat ::shakes head waves index finger:: let's just say I'm getting an early jump on the weekend. Besides, anything that gets me posting twice in a row for the first time in almost a month is enough to get past minor technicalities n'est pas? On w/the show!
****
I mean just cuz I have writer's block, further evidence of how blocked I was, I couldn't even think of the word to express what I felt, so I said, word-less...heh.
But yea, just cuz I gots ye olde writer's block doesn't mean kitty can't type.

Callie has been on quite an adventure in recent weeks. If you check out her flickr, as she's the only thing I take flicks of, she's gotten into the clothing rack. This clothing rack:

Cali-fornia Love
October 11, 2006 by Renee @ 11:34 AMIt wasn't enough to go and poke a kitten, I somehow managed to get one stuck on my finger and well, brought her back home. Ladies and Gent, I present you 6 week old Cali Raya:

You can call her Cali, when she's being naughty I reserve the right to call her by her full name, "Cali Raya [insert Renee's last name here], you stop that right now!"
She's a sweetie pie and yes the daughter of the famous Maggie...

...and baby sister of the 6 month old Bad Boy Mykah...

...but mostly, my new furkid, or shall I say furbaby as I've spent the last few nights, feeding, wiping her butt and consoling her fear of human hands.

*sigh*

Two reasons I felt the need to get out of town @ the last minute last week, 1) I was feeling tired. While a 3 hour/200 mile jaunt isn't the most relaxing thing to do, I needed to get out of town for a bit. Clear my head.
2) I had a bad dream that my aunt and cousin were out to get me, got some stuff subconsciously going on. I told my mother the dream and she said b/c it was so specific and literal, I wasn't predicting something, just suppressing what I was already thinking and to yeah, come over, I can play with the cats.
Wha- the?
I am a grown damn woman. What on earth gives her the idea that I!!! play!!! w/cats!!!???

Kit Vids
July 07, 2006 by Renee @ 09:10 AMMr. Mykah is quite mischievous...I posted about 12 videos of him @ play on youtube...all are pretty short, under 30 secs...these are my favorite:
Here he is coming over to our yard from where he really belongs...though he now seems to think he lives under the decks...
Further proof he's so new to the world. His mom generally ignores me and the camera. Not him. Every noise it makes, every light fascinates him that he can't help but run to me when I try to capture him doing something cute.
I found some twine for him to play w/and play he did...he seems to think he's a dog, fetching the string and trying to run w/it...
Here he pounces on mom & runs for the hills...

July 05, 2006 by Renee @ 10:48 PMI finally freshened up My Flickr Flicks...don't be confused if it strangely looks like the same cat that's been there since January. It's her identical twin baby kitten. Enjoy. I'll have some videos up shortly ![]()
Home Again
July 02, 2006 by Renee @ 10:43 PMI just drove 400 miles/6 hours in less than 48 hours. I'm beat, but before I go crash and burn, Maggie's baby made the trip worth it...

I'm thinking of a name, my mom says he dances, so I was thinking Barry, short for Baryshnikov. Or. Aleks. Or. Xander (all a take on Baryshnikov's name when he was on Sex and the City)
I tend to OD on the Maggie pics, you will not believe how many snaps I got of this little munchkin...I plum forgot Maggie even existed
and I got cute videos to boot...all coming later this week...for now...I sleep.
I could call him Maggie-2-point-Oh or Maggie Jr...or...Mikha. That's it!
His name is Mikha (My Kah)

Kitty Tales
June 20, 2006 by Renee @ 08:55 PMIn other news that is not @ all related to how much weight I've gained in the last few weeks, I'm getting a kitty.
I know I know old news. Most of y'all know Maggie. But Maggie has 2 big impediments. One she may actually be, you know, already owned, which will make me a cat thief and two, well, she's an older cat who's used to being outdoors stalking squirrels. Part of me feels I'll be doing her an injustice keeping her locked in a 600 sq foot room when she's used to jumping fences and playing in the wild.

W/a kitten, my room will seem like the entire world to its small eyes and I'll train it to be an indoor cat. In the evening I'll take it for a stroll around the subdivision and when she gets older, I'll buy a cat leash and take her for real walks.
Granted by taking Maggie, I may be doing her a favor, extending her life by keeping her safe indoors. If my aunt didn't have a no cats in the house rule, I'd get her in a minute b/c she wouldn't have to be locked up all day and could roam the house. As it stands, I'm gonna have to wait for a few more things to play out before I see if it's still doable. It's not completely a done deal I'll never see her again, it may be another few months. Till then I started stalking kittens.
First I got online. W/mom hogging my DSL, I couldn't really blog, or post pics, or even podcast. That pushed me to hang out @ a pet msg board, especially the pic thread, and damn near losing my mind in the cuteness, which led me to craving a white kitten, which led me to dream about having a kitten, which led me to going to a pet shop and start poking @ said kittens.
I love going to pet stores, though I always feel like the stereotypical dude in the trench coat and fedora @ the video store. It's like everyone knows he's not really there to check out, Home Alone, he bides his time till no one is looking and dashes into the adult section.
I always feel the workers know I'm not there to look @ birds or hamsters. I stall and pretend to look @ the things they sell when I really want to make a beeline for the cats. Then I get there and act all ambivalent when I want to rip the cage open and sit on the floor and play w/them all.
So I went in all cool and blasé like, saw a cage w/slightly older kittens, I'd say 4-6 months and they were sleeping. I'm ooh and ahhing in my head as I poke them w/my fingers hoping they'd wake up already.
Jab jab jab.
::crickets::
Poke poke poke.
::turns over and snuggles closer to the other cat::
*sigh*
I started to leave b/c the dogs seemed to think I should play w/them too, as if!, but something made me double back. It was the rabbits.
